Green Publishing Initiative

This is Innovation and Creativity driven by the very need for survival. The Green Publishing Initiative (GPI) is a Zimbabwe-based project, "shaping communities one page at a time" which advocates for the sustainable re-use of published products such as magazines.

GPI works with poor communities to achieve this cause - we encourage and empower poor women to recycle old magazines and corporate publications into paper beads. These in turn are used to make fashion accessories and corporate gifts.

GPI uses its global network of publishers and organisations to activate global markets for these women's recycled products. One of the most innovative co-operatives we've worked with to date is the Moving Mothers Co-operative in Bulawayo's poor township of Njube, the group is composed of widows and other underprivileged old women in Zimbabwe.
